FAQ

It’s solid, for a start—no bottle, no waste, and no extra water like you’ll find in liquid shampoo. The unique shape makes it easy to hold onto in the shower (no slippery soap-drop routine), and it’s packed with hair-loving extras like ginger oil, cinnamon, and vitamin B5. You still get a rich lather, just without that heavy, coated feel some liquid shampoos leave behind—especially on fine hair.

Yep. It cleans well enough to lift the roots but won’t weigh the rest down. The bit of salt in there gives your strands a touch of texture, and the vitamin B5 helps smooth the surface so light bounces off better—hello, fuller-looking, shinier hair.

It is. No harsh sulfates here, so it won’t strip colour or make fragile hair feel like straw. Instead, it relies on mild cleansers and essential oils to get rid of buildup.

Good Shampoo Bar with a Few Drawbacks

Overall, I really like this shampoo bar! It takes a little more effort to get a good lather than traditional shampoo, but once you get used to it, it’s really not an issue. I wouldn’t say it gives my hair amazing volume, but it does a decent job. I notice my hair tends to lie a little flatter by the second day.

The bar seems to be getting smaller fairly quickly, although I’m still on my first one, so I’m curious to see how long it actually lasts.

What I love most is the simplicity! I love the look of the bar, not having a big plastic bottle taking up space, and not dealing with overwhelming, artificial chemical smells. It’s a refreshing change from traditional shampoo.

I’ll most likely purchase it again, and I’m looking forward to trying the conditioner bar alongside it!

Stays goopy and doesn't last very long.

I love the smell, the lather, the way my hair feels, as a shampoo I think it's great for my hair and scalp. All that to say, something isn't quite right. I am wondering if something major changed in the recipes when Ethique switched to the half moon shape? I've been using Ethique for a few years now and all 3 bars I've bought since the shape change have stayed pretty wet and gooey. After I use it I rinse extra suds off set it on a soap saver out of the water to dry but it doesn't, even though I'm the only one using it. The wall under it has a gooey orange trail where it has leaked through the soap dish between uses (even though the suds have been rinsed off). Naturally, it seems like I'm going through these much quicker than when they were the round disks, even though I don't wash my hair every day.

Loyalty Rewarded

I switched to a liquid shampoo - a former favorite - when my Volumising Shampoo Bar finally gave up the ghost. Switching is good, right? Keep an open mind, don't get into a shampoo rut, etc. etc. Well, never again! Limp strands, and how can this hair be both flyaway and coated with product?? My new order arrived promptly and I'm back to the pure-and-easy orange bar and I love it! Thank you, Ethique!
